Winner Aawaj Punjab Di

I was born on 26th January 1994 in Jammu. I began learning music at the age of three because I grew up in a musical environment—my father is a classical singer. Since childhood, I had a deep inclination towards music, and seeing this, my father started teaching me classical music. At the age of nine, I performed on stage for the first time. By the age of eleven, I participated in a competition organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, where I won first prize in the senior wing. That was the beginning of my musical journey. Gradually, my love for music grew stronger. My father ensured that I practiced regularly, and little did I know that this passion would take me this far. In 2012, I participated in “Chhoona Hai Aasmaan,” a talent show organized by the Jammu & Kashmir Police Department. I secured the first prize, and as a reward, the police department sent me to Mumbai for advanced training in music. There, I received six months of musical training, met renowned music directors and singers, and gained a deeper understanding of Bollywood music. That six-month training added wings to my singing journey. Following this, I was honored with the Star Award by the Jammu & Kashmir Police Department.  After completing my 12th grade, I enrolled for graduation at Jammu University. While pursuing my graduation, I participated in Voice of Punjab on PTC Punjabi, where I made it to the top five, but my journey wasn’t over yet. Later, I participated in Awaaz Punjab Di on MH1 Channel. I had never imagined I would win this competition, but I had a clear goal in mind. I was determined to win, and with hard work, dedication, and my parents’ blessings, I emerged victorious. Music gave me both recognition and identity. In 2017, I was honored with the Nari Shakti Award at a ceremony held in Delhi, where I was awarded by the Governor of Gurgaon, Shri Captain Singh Solanki, along with other dignitaries. Again in 2018, I received the Nari Shakti Award, which was a matter of pride for me. This is how my musical journey progressed. I performed in various states like Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, and Haryana. However, my academic journey was still incomplete. So, I enrolled for a Master’s in Music at Jammu University. I completed my M.A. in Music in 2018, after which I qualified for the NET in music. I also earned the title of Grade A Artist from All India Radio.

Currently, I am working as an Assistant Professor at the Government Degree College for Women, Kathua. This journey was not easy; I faced many challenges along the way. But with my strong determination and focus, I was able to earn a name, identity, and position for myself through music.
